4MWh Backup Power Project for a Large Downtown Data Center in Accra, Ghana
An LVK 4MWh fully integrated C&I BESS container with 500kW STS bridging the 10-15 second diesel generator startup gap for a Tier III data center hosting multinational banks and telecom operators in Accra.
Project Overview
Project Background
An LVK 4MWh fully integrated C&I BESS container with 500kW STS bridging the 10-15 second diesel generator startup gap for a Tier III data center hosting multinational banks and telecom operators in Accra.
Customer Needs
The center's critical server loads demand extremely high continuity of power supply. However, the local grid is unstable, frequently experiencing instantaneous voltage dips and sudden outages. Although the building is equipped with auto-start diesel generators, there is a 10-to-15-second power vacuum between the moment the diesel engine starts and the time it achieves stable, full-power output.
Application Focus
Data Center Backup Power (Tier III Ride-Through)
Solution Design
Integrated ESS Design For Site Operations
An LVK 4MWh fully integrated C&I energy storage container was deployed. The output power distribution core features a 500kW STS (Static Transfer System), acting as a high-power, seamless transfer hub capable of sub-second response, thereby perfectly bridging the power gap during the diesel generator's startup phase.

System Architecture
Coordinated Power Flow
4 MWh Fully Integrated BESS Container + 500 kW STS + Microgrid EMS
Results & Benefits
Project Outcomes
Ensured 100% zero downtime and zero data loss for critical server loads at this key West African data center.
Replaced traditional, highly polluting, and short-lived lead-acid batteries with a system designed for a service life of over 10 years.
Estimated Return on Investment (ROI) period: 4.0 years.
