Project Overview
Project Background
An LVK 3MWh extreme-high-temperature liquid-cooled BESS container paired with a 500kW STS module and 2.5MW diesel gensets, dynamically smoothing oilfield pump surge loads in the harsh Omani desert interior.
Customer Needs
The oilfield pump units experience severe, cyclical load fluctuations (characterized by intense instantaneous surges) during operation. To prevent these surge loads from causing generator trips, the diesel generators were previously forced to operate at low efficiency for extended periods, resulting in exorbitant fuel consumption; additionally, the extreme desert heat drove up equipment maintenance costs.
Application Focus
Hybrid Energy Storage (Diesel + BESS)
Solution Design
Integrated ESS Design For Site Operations
A 3MWh outdoor liquid-cooled containerized energy storage system was deployed, featuring a 500kW STS (Static Transfer Switch) module on the heavy-load output side. The system leverages the energy storage unit's high-rate, rapid charge/discharge capabilities and the STS's millisecond-level response time to dynamically smooth out the pump units' surge loads.

Results & Benefits
Project Outcomes
Successfully reduced diesel fuel procurement costs for the oilfield operations by an average of 40%.
Prevented mechanical wear caused by severe load fluctuations, resulting in a 30% reduction in generator maintenance costs.
The projected payback period (ROI) is only 2.5 years.
